Labor means that you are about to have your baby. Any or all of the following signs may mean that you are going into labor.

A small amount of pinkish mucous discharge from your vagina called the mucous plug or show. This plug protected your uterus during pregnancy.
Breaking of the water bag which protected baby during pregnancy. This may be anything from a gush to a trickle of warm water from your vagina and will feel different from urinating. It has very little to no odor and may be sticky. Look at the color of this liquid and describe it to your health care provider.
Contractions. These may begin as a mild backache with cramps in your abdomen. As you approach birth, the contractions will get stronger, last longer and will usually be spaced evenly apart. As early as the 6th or 7th month, you may feel some contractions, but the contractions that come during labor are much stronger and do not go away if you stand or walk around.

No two women have exactly the same experience during labor. The way labor begins and progresses is different for each pregnancy. It's a good idea to talk to your health care provider early on about what you should look for and when you should go to the hospital. However, if you have any of these signs, or if you believe your labor is beginning, call your health care provider right away.
